La Trucha

A traditional place in the Barrio de las Letras

.La Trucha, located just a few steps from Puerta del Sol and Plaza de Santa Ana, first opened its doors in 1953. Although many have always known it as “La Trucha,” it was originally established under the name “El Callejón,” according to the license granted by the city council that same year. Over time, it became the well-known La Trucha, famous to this day for its legendary fried dishes—such as pescaíto frito and eggplant—as well as its distinctive selection of smoked specialties.

La Trucha reached its golden age during the 1980s and 1990s in Madrid, in the era of la Movida Madrileña, when people flocked to taverns in search of freedom and fun. Located near the Teatro Español, the tavern became a meeting point for artists and actors drawn to its lively, liberated atmosphere.

Until around 2014, the tavern was run by the founding family business. However, after a period of approximately four years of inactivity due to renovation works in the building, La Trucha reopened under the same name but with new owners.

Its regular customers were delighted, and the reopening was warmly welcomed by the entire neighborhood. Difficult times followed, however, including the COVID-19 pandemic, from which the tavern was never able to fully recover.

Now, with great enthusiasm, La Trucha opens its doors once again in 2024. Although the former owners are no longer involved, the name and essence of this iconic place remain intact. The time has come to continue its legacy, adapting to modern times without losing its unique identity.

La Trucha is an undeniable symbol of tradition and hospitality in Madrid. It is essential for us to welcome and care for the loyal guests who cherished this place for so many years, while also opening our doors to all those who wish to become part of our story and enjoy our carefully crafted culinary offering.
